I suppose I did it to prove to myself what my limits were or what my interests were.
I started doing that with most everything. My mother put me in dance class, and I would have a problem with the teacher because my attention span was absolutely zero.
I would be separating myself from the rest of the girls, trying to do it my way on the side. The teacher would come over and try to give me some tip
(that was probably useful at the time) and it would just go in one ear and out the other. I would do it my way, to the point of spraining my ankle in ballet class, but then finally getting it.
In the last competition that I did, I won because the teachers told my grandmother that I was unique. (I didn't listen to advice and I was stubborn, yet somehow I was unique.)
